Yamaha organises safe riding sessions in Gurgaon

The program was aimed at imparting safe riding techniques to city’s school kids.

India Yamaha Motor organized its Kidz Yamaha Safe Riding Science program in Gurgaon which was well-attended by 100 students between eight to thirteen years of age from Ryan International School. The day long program was divided into two sessions – the classroom session and the practical session where the techniques were taught by the Yamaha licensed trainers. The practical session saw the kids being taught the relevance of road safety, riding gear and riding skills on the Yamaha TTR 50 and PW 50 bikes.

The program is a part of Yamaha Safe Riding Science (YSRS) initiative which was launched in India in 2008. Jun Nakata, director, sales and marketing, India Yamaha Motor, said, “We want to teach the kids about the nuances of riding safely so that when they grow up and start riding bikes, they are well aware of the traffic safety and proper riding techniques.”

BMW has launched the F700GS, and Indians can hope to see this practical adventure bike in Indian BMW Motorrad showrooms, with BMW Motorrad’s Southern region importer Navnit Motors having already confirmed the F 650GS as ready for launch, pending Government Of India approvals.

The updated F 700GS comes with sharper styling, revised tank cowls, a new front beak and an improved wind protection visor. Also offered are refreshed instruments, smarter switches and tinted turn-signal indicators. The tough, top-quality F 700GS is an adventure bike that is certain to make an ideal motorcycle for demanding Indian conditions. The F 700GS powerplant is based on the outgoing F 650GS platform, a 798cc, parallel-twin, liquid-cooled unit. Peak power output is 75bhp, and the F 700GS comes with a six-speed gearbox.

ABS brakes are standard. Tall suspension and an upright, commanding riding position will make the F 700GS a perfect big bike to glide over potholed Indian roads with.

TVS Phoenix to be launched in India soon

Earlier this year at the Auto Expo, TVS had showcased many motorcycles and scooters with the promise of launching four new products in 2012. In what appears to be a leaked video preview of its new executive commuter, the Phoenix, the company appears to be ready to fulfill its first promise. From the video, it is clear that the Phoenix bears a strong resemblance to the Radeon concept shown at the Expo. It also looks to have equipment levels at par with the competition – front petal disc brake, digital instrument cluster and an all-black engine and crankcase along with alloy wheels. First amongst the segment features include LED pilot lamps(similar to the new Apache RTR series), hazard warning system, service due indicator and an engine kill switch.

The Phoenix will use the 124.8cc air-cooled single-cylinder engine from the Flame. It will produce around 10.5PS of power and 10Nm of torque. 4-speed manual gearbox will handle transmission duties. It will be in showrooms shortly and is expected to be priced slightly lower than the competition.

Steelbird Hi-Tech India ventures into the riding gear and accessories market by opening their own retail outlet called Riderz Shop in Delhi. The retail store will aim to tap the increasing demand of riding gears including the ISI marked helmets, jackets, suits, gloves, shoes and other allied products. The company also introduced the indigenously designed and developed carbon fibre helmet costing Rs 13,000.

Rajeev Kapur, managing director, Steelbird Hi-Tech India said “We plan to open around 200 such retail outlets across the country in next two years including another 8-10 stores in Delhi,” The company already has an established network of helmet dealers and distributors across India.
